As a festival connoisseur, it has been frustrating to see how much waste comes with a blowout weekend. Legendary. Perhaps. Varying on your partying level.

Inside the festival however, Lolla has continued to integrate green initives to further practice waste and excess water consumption along with the expanded use of renewable energy.
This year’s evolution marks the first time a major U.S festival has used a battery powered main stage.

Typically powered by diesel generators, the switch has been made for all audio, lighting, video and stage production used on the main stage to become powered up by a hybrid battery system.
Last season’s headlining set performed by Billie Eilish was partially powered by a solar powered battery system as part of a collab with environmental nonprofit Reverb.

With the first experiment aside, this year’s hybrid powered stage will deploy over 1.5 MWh of battery storage capacity. These batteries are charged using diesel generators operating on biodiesel fuel. These fuels are typically made from renewable sources like veggie oil, animal fat or recycled grease and are cleaner burning producing less addition to our sometimes creepy Chicago smog.

Manufactured by Swedish industrial tools and equipment company, Atlas Copco. These hybrids will be operated by CES Power, who is experienced with generating power for temporary events not limited to festivals, also including film, broadcast, major events and industrial projects.
Live Nation has joined in this partnership in an effort to reduce nearly half of their emissions by 2030. By collaborating with other large partners, this main event showcases how continuous change continue to bring readiness should it be determined that the show must go on.
