Holy Mother of Maiden! Kuma’s turned 15 this year
During the time of shadows coming to the surface, Kuma’s is underfire for what employees say are harassment, homophobia and racist behaviors from President and Manager of Operations, Ron Cain.
The alleged behavior was called out in June on Instagram with employees detailing their experience.
A short time after the allegations, Kuma’s Corner announced that they were making changes to their management, an effort that was hailed by former employees. Luke Tobias was with Kuma’s since 2008 and was elevated to Cain’s position. Tobias however resigned a few days after the announcement, stating that he shared different philosophies and they will not work with together.
Currently Cain remains head of the company and apologized both in a formal statement on social and by emails to employees.
“We are taking a number of steps to ensure that as a company we provide a diverse, safe and positive environment for everyone on our team at all of our stores.
“The ownership/leadership of Kuma’s Corner recognizes that in some cases it has failed to foster a safe, non-threatening and inclusive work environment.”
Cain mentions that he is not going away, and if employees interests are best served addressing them direct, that he remains available.
Kuma’s 15 year anniversary was this year and in celebration, Kuma’s Fest headlining Anthrax was to commence in August. Covid however has tossed the proverbial Ozzy ice water bucket on the Festival.
