Escape Rooms, can you survive the timer?

breakout mystery mansion

Upon arriving at Breakout, the clock almost instantly begins the countdown to the hour that we would be locked in a room to escape the themed horror room. Mystery Mansion was the escape room that was waiting for us. One hour was allotted once the rules were given to us and starting in a dark room with one door and a table with a boarded-up window. The staff tells you the rules and leaves you to begin, with only your thoughts and mind intact to utilize to solve the riddles to escape. From one room to another, each theme beginning different in nature you solve riddles with music, intellect, common sense, and mathematical skills. With my husband and I participating we manage to escape with the utilization of 6 supports from the Game Master and 5 seconds to spare. from the hour given to us.

Our first time we decided “unknowingly” that we had chosen one of their more difficult rooms (the hardest in fact). How an escape room works if you have ever wondered about the secret to being successful in each of them; is to simply have fun. I will admit I became quite flustered at the riddles…only because I’m fucking terrible at math ha-ha. How it works is you enter the business, in this case, we went with “Breakout”. We walked in after making our reservation a few hours earlier and we met our game master. Our game master explained the room to us and it was just my husband and I and forewarned us that this room can take 8 people normally up-to an hour to figure out…so we might be in for a challenge.

Once you checked in, they ask you to use the restroom since your literally locked in this room or series of rooms for up to an hour. Cameras line each room and an intercom system is put into place so you can talk to the game master for support if you get stuck on a riddle. Certain locations give you a certain amount of clue support (ours did not). So we get into the room, we are given our rules, and our game master leaves the room and on the television, our timer begins counting down. The hair-raising alarm begins to sound from 60:00 minutes (Sort of similar to the count down from SAW).

I won’t spoil it for anyone with the outcome or the events within the room, but here are some tips to be successful:

  1. If you don’t know how something works ASK.
  2. Don’t be afraid to ask for clues to help you and your team solve riddles. But we forewarned some escape rooms give you a limited number of clues.
  3. Some rooms are scarier then others and some people might have negative effects on their health for some of the rooms. Such as people with epilepsy might not be able to participate in certain rooms or horror-themed rooms with people with high blood pressure etc. (you have to sign a waiver form before going in anyway).
  4. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t escape. LOTS of people don’t escape and our game master told us a lot of statistics when I felt frustrated at only escaping with her help and 5 seconds to spare…now I don’t feel so bad ha-ha. We were 2 of only a handful that was able to escape that series of rooms successfully!
  5. HAVE FUN!

Now, an escape room can come with a hefty price. For entry it was $33.00 for each my husband and I. But with more people the price can go down to $20.00 per person.

All in all, the escape room was great fun! My next Escape room adventure will be the cellar…an escape room with bodies hanging from the ceiling and then novocaine! So more stories about these rooms to come!

INFO: The Mystery Mansion is about a family that mysteriously left the mansion in ruin. In order to escape, you must find a “cursed” object to escape the house! In this room, you deal with music, clocks, secret entrances, riddles, and the dark.

Yours
