Haunted Attractions are more then fun, games and demons

In the creative community, Haunted Houses – and seasonal events – create jobs and contribute to local economies. With many facing closures and struggling this season, a coalition was formed to help Congress understand that the Paycheck Protection Program requires additional adjustment for these small businesses.

According to the PPP regs, seasonal employers are allowed usage of any 12 week period between May 1, 2019 and Sept 15, 2019. These dates disqualify many Haunted Houses as they start operations mid-September.

“I don’t know if folks imagined that the Covid crisis would extend this long when the rules were written”, said Aaron Cutler, one of the lobbyists representing the coalition.

The goal is to have the additional dates span in any extension of the loan program, which may include holiday-season businesses as well.

Lombard. Mother of two young adults. Creator and Editor of Haunted Emporium Magazine. I love the horror and collective art scene here in Chicago. It’s been amazing to watch the progression – and more acceptance of the benefits that it brings to the area. I enjoy haunted houses, live music, ramblings, journalism, photography and adventures. I recycle/ redesign furniture and make Halloween props. I do a home haunt, and enjoy conventions and films. I make my own costumes, so if I get an opportunity to dress up, I’m happy. You’ll often find me biking or wondering around downtown with the look of awe that I’ve had since being a child. I believe in supporting both local and talent that travels through the area. The Emporium was designed as a contribution to the community.
